GET INVOLVED

Forward 2045 was adopted by the Winston-Salem City Council on November 18, 2024, and the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners on August 25, 2025. With the adoption of the Plan, it now serves as the official comprehensive plan for the City and County. The next step is to move forward with implementation of the goals and recommendations of the Plan. This implementation process will need input from the community to ensure that it aligns with the community's vision for the future. Information on future public participation opportunities will be listed on this page.

UPCOMING PUBLIC INPUT MEETINGS

Area Plans

Planning staff will begin the next round of area plans in January 2026. Area plans are smaller plans that cover a specific area within the city and county. The plans allow for implementation of the broad goals of Forward 2045 at the parcel level with opportunities for public engagement. These recommendations helped guide decisions on rezoning and development proposals.

The first area that will be addressed is Northeast Winston-Salem and Forsyth County. The kick-off meeting for the area plan process will be held in January with additional meetings scheduled into spring.
